Mask rules extended to more venues in Queensland

Queenslanders will need to pull their masks out at more venues from tomorrow.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced further restrictions were necessary in light of the highly contagious Omicron variant.
From 5am Thursday, masks will be required at cinemas and theatres and for hospitality staff.
This is in addition to the previous rule which made masks mandatory at supermarkets and stores, on public transport and in rideshares.
“We know in hospitality staff, people go around from table to table, we all don’t have that full protection yet, because we all don’t have the boosters,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“This is not very onerous, we have spoken to the industry and to the unions, they understand why this is necessary.
“Essentially, we don’t want to have all our cafes and restaurants going down because of the Omicron variant.”
Ms Palaszczuk also flagged rapid antigen tests could be allowed as an alternative to PCR tests from January.
“We are happy to get some further advice from AHPPC about rapid antigen tests.
“We will look at, if this is approved, we may be able to utilise them in the new year from January 1.
“But from now until the new year, we will require those PCR tests.”
