The state government is offering free flu vaccines to all Queenslanders, with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk saying this year’s season is shaping up to be one of the worst.

10 people are in ICU and 151 people are in hospital with influenza A.

There are 4282 cases of the flu in Queensland, a doubling of cases in a the past week.

Premier Palaszczuk says the government is taking decisive action and it’s a “pre-emptive strike”  against rising cases.

She says “hospitals will not be able to cope” if cases continue to spike.

Some of the patients in hospital are infected with both COVID-19 and flu.

Queenslanders will be able to go into any pharmacy or chemist to get a free flu jab from tomorrow until June 30.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath says there are predictions around 400-500 people could end up in hospital.
