The England cricket team and management were this morning late to leave their hotel for today’s Ashes play due to a COVID-19 scare.

A member of the team’s family group has tested positive to the virus.

The team has now been cleared and are on their way to the MCG.

Meanwhile, a journalist who attended the Melbourne Cricket Ground yesterday has tested positive.

Cricket writer Ben Horne told Mark Levy a full day’s play should still be possible.

“The series is skating on thin ice,” he said. “There’s a lot of twists and turns to go.

“It would be quite similar to yesterday – they’ll push play back a bit and hopefully the punters coming out to the MCG will get a full day’s play.”
