Border restrictions insurmountable for Queenslander’s life-extending surgery
Queensland’s uncompromising border restrictions are under fire, with people continuing to be denied critical health care.
The stories of two mothers living south of the border prompted Toni from Stockleigh to bring her experience to Neil Breen’s attention.
Toni’s healthcare struggles differ in that she lives in Queensland.
She requires a life-extending heart surgery to be performed by her surgeon in Queensland and a specialist surgeon based in Sydney.
However, Queensland Health has rejected exemption requests submitted by both surgeons.
“It is very disappointing,” Toni said.
“We can have footballers, we can have movie stars but you can’t have a doctor.”
