One of Australian’s most harrowing cases has come to a close today, with Borce Ristevski sentenced for killing his wife Karen Ristevski.

Borce will serve at least six years in prison, with a maximum of nine years.

Prior to pleading guilty to manslaughter, the father-of-two always denied he had anything to do with his wife’s disappearance, maintaining she walked out of their Melbourne home after an argument in June 2016.

Karen’s badly decomposed body was found in bushland eight months later.

The court heard evidence against Ristevski couldn’t prove he intended to murder her.

What still remains a mystery is how or why he did it. Borce refuses to give those answers.

Justice Beale said his last-minute guilty plea would not deliver the reduced sentence he “might otherwise have expected.”

“You have not revealed how or why you killed your wife,” Justice Beale said.

Macquarie National News reporter Stefanie Waclawik says the sentence shocked those in court.

“There were a lot of gasps coming from what was a packed courtroom.

“The judge said without knowing the level or the duration of the violence or what actually happened, that did affect his sentencing.”
