Booster mandate leaves Queensland tourism industry rattled
Queensland’s tourism industry has been rattled by the debate around whether the advice will change to require people to receive three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to be considered fully vaccinated.
Australia’s expert immunisation panel will consider whether a booster dose will be required, and will make a recommendation to National Cabinet.
The change could mean overseas travellers would have to be boosted, to travel to Australia.
States and territories can also impose their own requirements, and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has already flagged overseas visitors will require a third dose to enter the state.
CEO of the Queensland Tourism Industry Council, Daniel Gschwind, said it was concerning for the industry.
“It certainly is a concern to us Scott, we certainly are rejoicing at the moment on the fact that the international borders will re-open we’ve been told on the 21 February, and we certainly hope the door is and will remain fully open on that day,” he told Scott Emerson.
He said they were “counting on” doubly vaccinated tourists being allowed to come to Australia.
“Right now it would be a devastating blow, it would shut the door again for the majority of international travellers, so it’s not something we would welcome at all.”
