The body of 26-year-old Chris Caserta has been located in waters off Main Beach. 

Police say Surf Life Saving Queensland lifesavers found the body in the surf break south of the sand pumping jetty around 8.30am.

It has since been formally identified as Caserta.

Caserta and a 25-year-old woman went swimming at Surfers Paradise around 10pm Wednesday night.

Bystanders observed the couple struggling in the water and were able to assist the woman to shore.

They were unable to assist Caserta, and it’s believed he was unable to make it to shore.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
