Bill shock: Restaurant owner faces hefty hike to electricity bill

neil breen

The owner of a popular cafe and restaurant in Ipswich says he will have to cough up an extra nearly $8000 for electricity each year.

Owner of Fourthchild Cafe Restaurant in Ipswich, Ross Williams, says he “nearly fell off his chair” when he received a letter notifying him he would be charged an extra $7,864.87 for electricity over the 12 months from August of this year, or about $175 a week.

Neil Breen said the situation was “extraordinary”.

It will now cost him over $45,000 a year for electricity.

“It’s just crazy,” Mr Williams said on Brisbane Live.

He’s at a loss at what to do, as it’s nearly the same as what he pays for rent.
