Beloved local eatery’s shock closure as COVID continues to clip wings

A popular wings restaurant has permanently closed its doors after suffering pandemic-led struggles.
Wing Fury, on Junction Road in Clayfield, announced its sudden closure on June 27, giving away $1 wings as a last hurrah.
Owner Sam told Peter Fegan, filling in for Scott Emerson, said the cost of products just kept rising to a point she couldn’t pass on to customers.
“It seems unfair to charge people a premium cost when it’s only because of food shortages and COVID and there’s this uncertainty,” she said.
“With the way it is, all the financial things with owning a small business, let alone a small business in Australia, it’s really hard, man.”
As for the beloved sauce recipe? Sam says she can see two options from here.
“I either keep the recipes, pass them down to my family for generations and hope that someday someone else will have a crack at it or I sell it to the highest bidder!
“And in this day and age, $20 is $20!”
