We’re all being urged to join the conversation about suicide prevention on the 10th annual R U OK? Day.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44.

Six out of the eight suicides every day in Australia are men.

R U OK? Day chief executive Brendan Maher tells Alan Jones we need to ask, “Are you okay?” and listen to the answer.

“What might be water off a duck’s back for you or I could be a major crisis for someone else.

“Many people around us are fighting fires we don’t know about and we just want to encourage people, if they see the cracks appear, if they think someone’s a little bit bent out of shape, get alongside them and ask them if they’re okay.

“And more importantly, be ready for the answer if they say no.”
