Barnaby Joyce urges caution over Chinese dairy takeover
Barnaby Joyce has urged caution ahead of a multi-million dollar takeover of Australia’s second largest milk processor Lion Dairy.
The Chinese dairy giant, Mengniu Dairy will pay $600-million to take over the Lion Dairy & Drinks portfolio from the Japanese beverage giant Kirin.
Some brands in the Lion Dairy portfolio include Dairy Farmers, Pura Milk, Yoplait yogurt, Big M, Dare and Farmers Union iced coffee, Vitasoy soy milk and juice brand Daily Juice.
Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce tells Steve Price there needs to be a “pause” on this deal.
“I want to make sure that our nation in the current climate is free form any influence from regimes that has a different philosophical view on how a democracy works.
“The issue is not the race, the issue is not that it’s overseas, the issue is the form of government.”
