Authorities scramble to pinpoint date Qld’s third COVID-19 wave will peak

The Premier is pleading with Queenslanders to treat the state’s worsening third COVID-19 wave seriously after more than 11,000 new cases were recorded overnight.
Annastacia Palaszczuk has issued a fresh call for masks to be worn indoors, particularly at schools, in an effort to protect the elderly.
“Some people may think it’s not cool but if you have elderly grandparents, you could be helping to save their lives,” she said at a press conference.
The state recorded 10 virus-related deaths in the last 24-hour period, including one influenza death.
Meanwhile, hospitalisations remain at an all-time high, with 1034 COVID-19 patients currently receiving treatment.
“Please take this seriously,” Ms Palaszczuk said. “And if you have not had that booster, go and get that booster.”
Acting chief health officer Peter Aitken said authorities are currently trying to estimate when the current COVID-19 wave will reach its peak.
He hopes to have an answer later today.
