Australian Border Force Commissioner sacked over ‘questionable conduct’

The union representing border force staff is welcoming a decision to sack commissioner Roman Quadveleig.

Mr Quadveleig has been on paid leave from the $620,000 a year position amid an investigation into his conduct with a younger, former female staffer.

Community and Public Sector Union National Secretary Nadine Flood tells Ross Greenwood it was unfair on staff to drag-out this decision.

“It’s been increasingly frustrating for thousands of border force staff we represent.

“They see a senior official being paid a very high salary for many, many months after highly questionable conduct while some of them are working there on $50,000 a year and if they did something like this they’d be stood down without pay.

“It’s a real double-standard.

“There’s one standard for bosses who are earning an awful lot more money whereas for people who battle to pay the bills they’re subject to a different standard.”
