Scammers are finding new ways to deceive Australian’s online, with Australian’s scammed out of $3 billion last year.

The ACCC last week revealed that Australian’s lost $3 billion to fraud in 2022, an increase of $1 billion from the previous year.

QUT scam expert, Dr Cassandra Cross, joined Neil Breen on Brisbane Live to help inform listeners on how to protect themselves against the latest trends in online and mobile scams.

Dr Cross lists off on the five types of lessor known frauds that everyone should be aware of, including:

  1. Romance bating
  2. Online shopping fraud
  3. Jobs and employment fraud
  4. Recovery scheme
  5. Remote access scheme
