‘We’ll get him home’: Hopeful father of schoolie critically injured in horror Bali crash

A Newcastle teenager has ended up in a critical condition after a horrific crash while on schoolies in Bali.
The 18-year-old’s family said, in a statement, that Lawson Rankin chased after a driver who snatched a mobile phone from a friend on the back of another scooter.
His friends found him unconscious, face-down and in the sewer.
They performed CPR but he is yet to wake up.
Mr Rankin did not have an international licence to ride a motorbike, which means travel insurance will not cover his medical costs which could be well over $100,000.
The family have flown to Bali to be with him in hospital and raised more than $135,000 for Mr Rankin via a GoFundMe page.
His father, Phillip Rankin, tells Ben Fordham they should be able to bring him to Australia for treatment by early next week.
“It’s a nightmare… we’re organising medical evacuation as we speak.
“It’s minute by minute, breath by breath. It will be fine, we’ll get him home.”
