Our aquaculture is particularly special, but it’s under threat as cheaper foreign seafood dominates the market share.
Our barramundi farmers are feeling the heat and the push is on to get Australian fish on Aussie plates.
Dan Richards’ family has been farming barramundi for a quarter of a century.
He tells Chris Smith Aussie-grown fish may be more expensive than foreign seafood, but it’s worth every extra cent.
“We have very stringent environmental regulations, labor laws… food safety regulations.
“The brand of ‘Australian product’ means that you know it’s got that quality behind it.
“The quality product you get out of Australia and the Australian jobs that stand behind, that is worth it.”
