Australia’s Ambassador to the United States has phoned Ray Hadley after attending the funeral for President George H W Bush.
Joe Hockey represented Australia, alongside Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove, at the Washington National Cathedral along with about 3000 mourners.
Mr Hockey phoned the openline from Washington DC, wanting to share his experience of the emotional service.
He tells Ray it was a dignified tribute to a great man.
“It was interesting to watch the faces of all the living Presidents, in reaction to it.
“Prince Charles was there with Camilla, a number of others.
“It was an extraordinary occasion and it reminded me why we are such close mates with the United States.”
