Police say an alleged aspiring jihadist, who’s been arrested in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, was well into planning a terror attack.

The 34-year-old allegedly wanted to attack police officers, government officials and other Muslims that he deemed insufficiently devout.

The Joint Counter Terrorism Team’s Detective Superintendent Michael Sheehy told Chris O’Keefe he has been on their radar for a few years.

“We charged him this time last year … he did six months in custody.

“We generally attempt to get these people into some deradicalisation program of which this individual declined to participate and got back online and continued with that rhetoric.”
