Alec Baldwin is to be charged over the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the movie Rust

Halyna Hutchins died in October 2021 after a gun was fired at the Santa Fe county movie set.

After receiving a final report last year, the district attorney has decided to charge Alec Baldwin, who fired the gun, and the armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, with involuntary manslaughter.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford told Laurel, Gary & Mark involuntary manslaughter is “the lowest possible charge you can make when there is a dead body”.

“They’ve probably done that because they believe they have the highest chance of success by putting that particular charge out there,” he said.

The district attorney said the charges will be filed by the end of the month. Baldwin and his co-accused would then be summonsed to face an initial hearing.

“I would think it’s to everyone’s benefit to have it play out properly in a courtroom, rather than just in the media and Alec Baldwin giving interviews,” Ford continued.

Baldwin has already paid a settlement of an undisclosed amount to Hutchins’ family over the shooting.
