Churchie 5.6.17

Well, the various Churches and any number of schools have been under the spotlight for years over claims of past sexual abuse of children in their care

But are unscrupulous individuals also exploiting this issue to their own advantage?

I see a Catholic order of brothers in Quebec Canada alleges it is the victim of fraud and extortion perpetrated by Queensland convicted murderer, David Grant Mathiesen

The Canadian Catholic order ran a school in Tokyo which Mathiesen, whose father was an Australian diplomat in Japan, once attended

In 2013 Mathieson sought an apology from the order for sexual abuse he allegedly suffered at the hands of priests when he attended the school in the ‘60s

Mathieson received the apology and $60,000 in compensation

The order says it naively accepted Mathieson’s allegations and demands, even though the priests he identified denied any sexual abuse, because it wanted to avoid the matter being reported to police

But Mathieson wasn’t satisfied with $60,000 and an apology

He then threatened to report the order to Japanese police unless it handed over $66 million to him

Mathieson, who attended Churchie in Brisbane after leaving the Tokyo school, is also alleging he was a victim of sexual abuse at Churchie

Mathieson is currently on parole after serving 15 years of a life sentence for luring a woman from the Philippines to Australia in 1980, taking out a $400,000 life insurance policy on her and then drowning her

If this is an indicator of the veracity of sexual abuse allegations that have led to the renaming of a library at Churchie, then the library should be reinstated as the Harry Roberts library today
