Australian travellers will be able to fly with a different airline, when airline start-up Bonza launches later this year.

There will be 25 routes connecting 16 destinations, 15 of those regional, across Australia.

The carrier plans to bring ultra-low-cost fares to regional towns and popular holiday destinations.

Bonza hopes to be flying by around the middle of the year and will base its fleet at Sunshine Coast Airport.

Chief executive Tim Jordan said there was a pent up demand to travel domestically.

He said 80 per cent of the 25 markets are not serviced by any other airline, and he believes people in the regions want to travel as much as people in the capital cities.

“This is all about leisure travel,” he told Scott Emerson.

He said the timing to launch the new airline was good for three reasons.
