It’s not clear whether young children will need to have a negative PCR COVID-19 test before travelling into Queensland, with the state just days away from the borders re-opening to hotspot states.

Acting Chief Health Officer Dr Peter Aitken said they were still working through that requirement.

“Normally it’s 16, we require that but we are just finalising the exact detail of that age group,” he told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons.

It was reported that it would be children as young as 12 months of age.

But Dr Aitken said it was not yet decided.

He also spoke about when the modelling suggests Queensland will hit a surge in cases, suggesting it wouldn’t all happen a the same time.

On lockdowns, he predicted localised restrictions as the state opens.
