Academy ‘condemns’ Will Smith’s Oscars attack, launches crisis talks

Gary Hardgrave

The Academy Awards organisers are expected to hold crisis talks following an on-stage blow-up at the Oscars.

Will Smith stormed the stage and appeared to strike Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head.

Pinkett Smith has previously spoken about living with alopecia, which causes hair loss.

Smith later used his acceptance speech for best actor in King Richard to apologise to the Academy for his behaviour.

Nine News US correspondent Alison Piotrowski told Neil Breen it’s still unclear whether the Academy will ‘punish’ Smith.

“It is a circus, Breenie, and I’m waiting for Round 2 today, to be honest.”
