Fearmongering about a looming ‘Day Zero’, where country towns will supposedly run out of water, is killing regional communities.

Alan Jones is broadcasting from the bush all week where the drought is being made worse by do-gooders spreading misinformation.

Former Dubbo Mayor Matthew Dickerson tells Alan Jones that claims the town will soon run out of water are “absolute nonsense”.

“It’s damaging to more than just tourism, Alan. Retailers are being impacted, obviously hoteliers, you’ve got restaurants not getting bookings because people are scared.

“And this messaging that’s being put out… about lack of water or running out of water or ‘Day Zero’, the damage that’s doing to our economy is huge!”

“We’ve got enough water. We’ve got ample water.”

Mr Dickerson tells Alan the drought is very real for farmers but says the city of Dubbo is very much open for business.

“There’s devastation in those areas but it doesn’t help anyone by having more of an impact in those individual communities than you need to.”
