‘A real pinch-me moment’: Quentin Bryce’s first meeting with the Queen

Dame Quentin Bryce has retold the moment she first met Queen Elizabeth II as the monarch’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations come to a close.
Speaking with Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, the former governor of Queensland and governor-general described the opportunity to work with the Queen as “an enormous privilege.
“Reflecting on those 70 years, I remember becoming aware of the Queen quite a while before that, as a little girl,” she said.
“We loved reading the stories of the Queen and her sister, the magazines, her coronation. We knew everything about her coronation gown!”
Of course, on her appointment to the governor role, a meeting with the Queen would become an inevitable aspect of the job.
“I’ll never forget driving through the gates of Buckingham Palace,” Dame Bryce continued.
“I was nervous! It was a real pinch-me moment.”
