‘A months and years project’: Flood recovery efforts stuck into ‘the really tough’ phase

Six weeks have passed since south-east Queensland was drenched by fast-moving floods but the toughest recovery phase has only just begun.
The debris has been cleaned up and buildings have dried off but Queensland Flood Recovery Coordinator Jake Ellwood says it’s not about to get easier.
“Now we get into the really tough stuff and that is the rebuilding of lives,” he told Scott Emerson.
“We’re very much focused on making sure businesses are getting back on their feet and that housing is coming back.
“I would hope, and certainly what I’m seeing already, is a lot of good work in rebuilding.
“But this is not a days and weeks, this is a months and years project.”
