Mark Day – The history & legacy of the Apollo 11 mission
Michael talks to Mark Day, Media Writer for News Limited, about the history & legacy of the Apollo Moon Mission which covered 13 years, cost $220 billion in today’s dollars, employed 400,000 at its peak… culminating with Neil Armstrong setting foot on the moon on July 20 (July 21, Australian time), 1969.
Mr Day, who witnessed the landing at the Mission Control Centre in Houston, Texas writes “nothing on Earth today remains untouched by the extraordinary technological developments that spun off last century’s space race. How we live, how we communicate, the tools we use, the food we eat and the way we stay alive have all changed since, and in some ways because of, the Apollo program”.
