Sometimes you get to drive a car that ticks all the boxes – that happened recently with Lexus’s RC-F Coupe – a rear-drive super coupe with an incredible performance credential – with 5.0-litre 351 kW V8 pumping out 530Nm of torque this super coupe is no shrinking violet.

In eight speed automatic with manual paddle shifters the Lexus RC-F is a stunning driver – the F incidentally stands for Fuji Speedway in Japan where this super coupe’s race bred performance was developed. I can’t recall a more satisfying performance car than the Lexus RC-F – supremely confident in all it does with outstanding handling and braking that matches jaw dropping performance with a 0 to 100km time of just 4.5-seconds. The test car at $138,000 was stunning in yellow – the only minus the oversensitive touch pad which is a disappointment on every Lexus I’ve driven. However, if you like performance cars they don’t come much finer. Yes Expensive but a very impressive performer. For a sports orientated coupe the ride quality from the adaptive suspension makes it a great driver around town even on poor surfaces, drive it with some aggression and it grips the road with claws while still providing a comfortable ride. The V8 engine is also docile around town but above 4,000 revs it really delivers performance while emitting a very inspiring sound. Even driven hard the Lexus RC-F Coupe has a laconic feel that makes it tireless to drive over long distances compared to some other sports orientated coupes. I’m David Berthon
