The international student boom: what happens when the bubble bursts?
At Sydney University, the money paid by international students has risen 92% in the past 3 years, amassing $752 million for the university.
Chinese pupils make up the majority of these students.
But despite the unprecedented demand for a western style tertiary education, there is concern that the sector has become too reliant on Chinese students.
With growing concern around Chinese interference and influence in our universities, it is thought political tensions in Chinese-Australian relations may see the Communist Party discourage students from studying here.
