A Wet Long Weekend
A long weekend and disappointingly wet – disappointing because with increased traffic on the road it invariably means more accidents and more fatalities. So if you’re heading off today a few reminders – firstly double demerits, secondly fatigue – inevitably many driver’s try to make their holiday destination in the fastest possible time without taking rest breaks. Please listen to your body – if you’re feeling drowsy and you haven’t had a break for several hours, please stop, revive and survive – get out of the car, walk around for 10 to 15 minutes and refresh. So often we hear of fatal crashes on country roads – it’s simply not worth the risk to remain at the wheel for long periods. If the family are asleep in a warm car and you’re the only one awake make sure a passenger remains alert with you in the front seat at all times – rotate the family accordingly. OK, it all sounds boring, but the consequences of driver fatigue can be absolutely horrific. I’m David Berthon.
