Johnathan Thurston has addressed speculation surrounding Billy Slater’s role as Queensland Maroons head coach, sharing where he stands on taking over the position.

Speaking to the Continuous Call team, the Maroons legend and former assistant coach broke his silence on whether he would throw his hat in the ring for the top coaching job.

“I’ve got too much on my plate, and I’ve got a small business as well,” Thurston revealed during the interview. “If I threw my hat in the ring to do it, I’d be doing a disservice to the jersey and to the state…”

Thurston opened up about the immense workload required to coach at the Origin level following his time working alongside Slater, explaining how his current schedule and personal business commitments factor into his decision.
