Queensland unveils $5.7B housing warfare to salvage a decade of failed supply

In an urgent address on Queensland’s escalating housing crisis, Housing Minister Sam O’Connor joined Jason Matthews on 4BC Mornings detailed a $7 million upgrade to expand Brisbane’s Emmanuel City Mission night sanctuary to a 24/7 operation alongside a record-breaking $5.7 billion state-wide social housing funding package.

The sweeping strategy also introduces a historic rent-to-buy initiative on Palm Island, targeted at flipping the community’s severe 1.4% homeownership rate by converting long-term tenants into property owners.
