‘Dangerous’: New QLD Health directive to place further pressure on overwhelmed nurses

A new directive from Queensland Health has sparked outrage from already overwhelmed doctors and nurses.

The directive asserts that from tomorrow, if a patient stays longer than 24 hours, the responsible Health and Hospital Service will not receive the activity-based payment for that patient.

President of the Nurses’ Professional Association of Queensland, Kara Thomas told Bill McDonald, “It’s dangerous, they’re not just angry, I think a lot of them are afraid because this is putting them at risk.”

“We’re all in it [nursing] because it’s a caring profession, we want to protect our patients and already we’ve got people saying, 75% of people that responded have seen an adverse outcome already,” Ms Thomas continued.
