Favourable conditions in the north offset unfavourable conditions in the south for red meat producers

The red meat sector has seen a rise in cattle and lamb slaughter volumes in the first quarter, as seasonal conditions bite.

Cattle slaughter reached more than two million head, up 2% from the end of last year, while lamb slaughter is up 12% on the same time frame.

Rural Editor Emily Minney spoke with Meat and Livestock Australia senior market analyst Erin Lukey about the figures.
