Queensland Police taskforce targets young offenders ‘posting and boasting’ online
Premier David Crisafulli declared war on youth crime when he was elected, with a particular focus on posting and boasting of youths on social media.
The Queensland Police have established a unit dedicated to apprehending young show-offs. The QPS Digital Intelligence and Community Engagement (DICE) team specifically focuses on the online activities of youth offenders.
The officer in charge of DICE, Superintendent Col Briggs, told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, “There are a range of systems and techniques to do that, but identifying an account is one thing, and identifying the behaviour is certainly one aspect of that.”
“Really, that’s where our work begins, and that’s where the team really come into the fore, because it’s fine to identify a post that is showing criminal behaviour, but we’ve actually got to get evidence to our investigators,” Superintendent Briggs said.
