Anthony Albanese has been accused of being a liar regarding Russia’s request for an airbase in Indonesia, with a report revealing the Prime Minister had known about Russia’s request in March.

Griffith University Asia institute military and defence expert Dr Peter Layton told 4BC Drive, Russia was keen to regain its status in the Asia Pacific region..

“And to make people think they are a superpower once more, because obviously they’re having a lot of trouble with the Ukraine war at the present time,” he said.

He also says both Albanese and Peter Dutton need to focus their defence policies on what is currently happening.

“One of the disapointings things of this election … is that defence has been taking a low profile,” he added.
