Experts have criticised the latest housing policies put forward by both Labor and the Coalition. 

Some have labelled them a “sugar hit” to win over voters, stating that they fail to address the issue of housing affordability.

When questioned on the skills shortage, Shadow Minister for Housing Michael Sukkar told Ben Davis on 4BC Mornings, “The industry right now has the ability to build more homes, but they’re not building them because they don’t have the buyers.”

“We’ve announced the $12,000 wage subsidy for apprentices to bring them online, but the truth is we will inherit a mess if we’re in government, and it’s going to take time to get those skills in because most of those trades will be four year apprenticeships,” the Shadow Minister continued.
