UK to introduce artificial intelligence to the public sector to boost efficiency

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is planning to introduce artificial intelligence to the public sector to boost efficiency.

The change would cover everything from education to detecting potholes on the road.

AAP technology writer Jennifer Dudley-Nicholson told Dean Miller on 4BC Summer Breakfast, “They’re not talking about replacing jobs immediately; but making them more efficient.”

“Putting it in the public service is interesting, you’d hope that there is a lot of human oversight and it’s not making ‘robodebt-like’ decisions,” Dudley-Nicholson continued.

Dudley-Nicholson predicted Australia will take a more conservative approach to the use AI in the future due to environmental and financial impacts.
