A Brisbane couple were days out from finalising the transaction for their first home together when a cruel scam cost them their $40,000 deposit, putting their dream for home ownership in doubt.

Christine and David Rose said they were tricked into sending the money to a hacker impersonating their solicitor.

Days later, they realised it was a fraudulent account.
