Car discounts back on the table, so negotiate hard for your new set of wheels

DAVID BERTHON

Slow trading conditions and better supply has seen car discounts re-emerge in
the new car market in the last few months. Obviously, it varies depending on
brand but more and more models are now being held as unsold stock on
showroom floors and that means you can negotiate a sharper price. However, it
will take some time to get back to the pre-Covid level of discounting and offers.
Hyundai is one company with better supply – good stock of its Tuscon, Sante Fe
and Palisade SUVs while its best-selling model the i30 hatch and sedan is now
arriving in good numbers providing more bargaining power to potential
customers. Toyota on the other hand is still waiting to get enough supply to meet
demand on its RAV4 Hybrid and LandCruiser models, Toyota’s first half sales 24
percent down on the same time last year. I’m David Berthon
