Queensland police officers will be able to stay on the job past the age of 60 to bolster frontline support; Neil Breen doesn’t think it’s a good idea.

The QPS will establish a pool of ‘special constables’ – retired police who would like to return on an ad hoc basis.

They would be used to strengthen policing capacity at peak times, or around special events.

Neil Breen expressed on Brisbane Live that he’s puzzled there was mandatory retirement for Queensland police officers at the age of 60 in the first place.

But he doesn’t agree that the older officers should be put on the frontlines.

“A 62-year-old officer will probably do a hammy (hamstring) chasing a kid down the street”, Neil Breen said.

Plus, Neil Breen’s views are not dissimilar from the CEO of the Queensland Police Union Ian Leavers’ recent comments on Sofie Formica’s Afternoons show.
