Russia launches six hypersonic missiles in huge attack on Ukraine

Peter Fegan

At least nine people have died after Russia launched a barrage of hypersonic missiles against Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The renewed shelling targeted critical infrastructure and residential buildings in 10 regions, managing to take a nuclear plant off the power grid for several hours.

A total of 81 missiles were launched, including six hypersonic missiles capable of evading air defences and eight drones.

Europe correspondent Jess Millward told Laurel, Gary & Mark Ukraine has declared the attack a war crime because at least nine civilians were killed in the attack.

“In the city of Lviv, which has really been a city relatively peaceful throughout this conflict, five people died from the same family as a result of these missile strikes,” she said.

“Because power plants were targeted, in the capital Kyiv, the city was without power for much of the day and it is freezing in Ukraine at the moment.

“[This is] certainly the most sustained and widespread attack that we have seen in several weeks in Ukraine.”
