Australia set to buy up to 5 Virginia-class subs as part of AUKUS pact
Australia is expected to purchase up to five US submarines, as the AUKUS security pact moves into its next phase.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will travel to the San Diego naval base next week for crucial meetings with US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
9 News federal politics reporter Eliza Edwards says they are expecting more details about the deal next week.
“The suggestion is Australia will get up to five US Virginia-class boats,” she told Neil Breen.
It would make Australia one of seven countries with nuclear-powered submarines.
