neil breen

The potential $60 billion price tag to electrify all Australian households has been revealed in new costings.

Federal government costings revealed it would cost around $13,000 a household.

It will be addressed in the budget in May.

Around 5.1 million households use gas.

CEO of the Australian Pipelines and Gas Association, Steve Davies, says they welcome the Treasury releasing the costs of electrification.

“You quoted a number there from the Parliamentary Budget Office of $13,000, that’s just the government subsiding half of the cost do the cost per household is actually $26,000,” he told Breen.

He said while he’s not anti-electrification, but it’s important to know the full costs.
