Liberal party to provide $5000 grant for young drivers

More promises, the Perrottet Government pledging this week, if re-elected, to
provide financial assistance to help young drivers into safer cars. Following
Victoria’s lead, young drivers in regional N.S.W. will be given a $5,000 cash
incentive to help them buy a newer, safer vehicle – it has to be less than ten years
old and must have a five-star safety rating. Road safety advocates support the
exercise given 18 – 25-year old’s in regional areas are over represented in fatal
crashes. Older less safer cars coupled with behavioural attitudes and
inexperience are one of the biggest killers of young drivers. Given the vast sums
of money ripped out of motorists by speed cameras for minor speeding offences
with nil effect on our road toll the scheme in my opinion should not just be for
regional areas but should be a state-wide incentive.
