A third of Australia’s young adults still have parents picking up the bills

Most young adults consider themselves ‘financially responsible’ despite more than a third admitting they still have a bill on their parents’ tab.

Data from a new survey by OnePoll has revealed 44 per cent of young Australian adults are still financially relying on their parents.

“This is everything from rent … but also things like groceries, paying your phone bill, whatever it might be,” The Big Smoke CEO Alex Senter told Laurel & Mark.

“It’s an interesting one because they feel that because they live in their own rental or they have a car that they are being independent, not thinking about the fact that they can’t actually pay for it themselves.

“Three-quarters of the people in the study said they want to take on their own bills … but it would take two years for them to feel like they could do that.”
