Premier finds unlikely ally in fight for equal Olympic funding

4bc news

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has found an unusual ally for Olympic funding in former prime minister Scott Morrison.

The Member for Cook is calling on the federal government to agree to an equal funding split for costs associated with Brisbane 2032.

The funding arrangement was initially agreed to under the Morrison government but the Commonwealth’s contribution is yet to be finalised under Labor.

“It’s so important for the Olympic Games to be above the argy-bargy of federal and state politics, and to realise the great opportunity the Games presents,” Mr Morrison said on Wednesday.

“This means sharing control and sharing funding, and I hope both sides live up to their end of the deal.”
