Two horses have been rescued after escaping from a horse racing promotion on in Surfers Paradise.

The pair managed to cross tram lines and the Gold Coast Highway before they were intercepted.

A police spokeswoman said they received the call to help just after 8.30am.

They were being ridden along the sand as part of the Magic Millions when they got loose and took off.

No injuries were reported.
