NRL news: Entire Dolphins squad will train together this week for the first time
The entire Dolphins squad will be together for the first time on Wednesday for training, with the return of the World Cup players.
With the start of the season just weeks away, the NRL’s newest club are looking forward to the first game against the Roosters in March.
Head of media at the Dolphins, Trad McLean, said the complete squad will be like a birthday present for coach Wayne Bennett, who turned 73 yesterday on January 1.
Luke Bradnam, filling in on 4BC Breakfast, said the Dolphins are a club steeped in Brisbane league history.
“The Broncos, the Titans, Cowboys, they were all created franchises for the NRL,” Mr McLean said.
“The Dolphins are going to be the first team that’s going to ascend from the BRL, into the NRL, and we’ve got a 75-year history.”
Sunday March 5 the Dolphins will take on the Roosters and Mr McLean said “it will be like the Broncos playing Manly back in 1988”.
“It’s going to be something not to be missed … that’s what we think this game will be like, you’ll be able to say I was there the first day of the Dolphins.”
