Peter Dutton’s concern over trade talks with China

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says Australia must not be surrender national values and ideals as the Albanese government tries to resolve trade restrictions with China.

The government has signalled it may withdraw two World Trade Organisation cases against Beijing if bans on Australian wine and barley are lifted in return.

Mr Dutton said while they want to normalise trading relationship with China, but said he is concerned about the impact with other trading pacts.

“But we shouldn’t compromise on what our core beliefs are, and what we stand up for, particularly if it’s going to adversely impact our other trading partners.”

He said “surrendering on Australian values and ideals” is wrong.
